La Cieneguilla Open Space
LCVA will provide a summary of the meeting 10 a.m. today (May 20) at the Community Center. Lisa Roach Santa Fe County Open Space Community Planner will be discussing the fire access road for the City’s Open Space in La Cieneguilla. Lisa is also in charge of developing a management plan for the area and is interested in resident’s thoughts and ideas for possible uses of the property.
El Rancho de las Golondrinas
LCVA recently met with representatives of El Rancho de las Golondrinas to provide an update on community activities and plans and was once again reminded of the museum’s commitment to La Cienega.
Examples of that commitment includes the following:
- Special growers’ markets at the Summer and Fall Festivals.
- Free admission for all La Cienega and La Cieneguilla residents to the Summer Festival in August
- Offering the museum as the site for a proposed community harvest festival this fall
This is in addition to the 50 free passes to the Civil War weekend we handed out at the LCVA annual meeting.
A sincere thanks to John Berkenfield and the kind and generous staff at Golondrinas. They are a great group of folks.
Los Pinos Closure
This is a year away, but the County is planning to repair the Arroyo Hondo “dip” where it crosses Los Pinos Road between Sunrise Springs and Paseo del Angel. This has been a problematic crossing which has been made worse with the installation of the too small and not approved bridge on North Estrellas just south of the crossing.
The County has proposed closing Los Pinos for up to five months to install a bridge at the crossing. The LCVA has expressed our concern about the closure and will be insisting that a temporary road be constructed to ensure continued access for residents.
Newsletter
The newsletter has received a reprieve. After some engaging discussion, the LCVA Board has decided to maintain the newsletter as an important way to communicate with residents even with our problems with its delivery.
The LCVA will produce periodic and special notice newsletters and will look at a variety of ways to fund the newsletter which is the real key to its continuation.
Gratefully, Walt Borton of the Flea has generously agreed to fund the June Newsletter and provides the announcement below.
Trader Walt’s The Flea
The Flea is back for its fifth year at the Downs. The Flea is a great place to shop for the unique and unusual, to explore looking for that hidden treasure or to buy that special gift for that special someone.
Please remember this weekend and the last weekend of the month is free tailgating for La Cienega and La Cieneguilla residents. So it is time to clean out the closets, the garage and all the other assorted storage areas and make a few bucks as well. Just follow the signs and Walt will direct you.
