La Bajada Ranch Open House
Even with the weather, the La Bajada Ranch Open House had a steady stream of visitors, many of them from our community. The LCVA Board was well represented and there were a number members of the La Bajada Ranch Steering Committee in attendance. Both groups were able to respond to questions about the ranch and thoughts about its future.
La Bajada Mesa National Monument Meeting
The La Bajada Mesa National Monument Meeting raised questions about the process and the lack of input or involvement from private land owners and lease holders in the proposed Monument boundaries. At one point Dianne Strauss, the Executive Director of the group supporting the monument effort explained that the meeting was just the beginning of a dialogue. This was challenged by a woman in the audience who asked "If this is the beginning of a dialogue why had the group already sought out and received support from a variety of private and public sources?"
Transit Meeting
The transit meeting will be an opportunity for the LCVA and residents to demonstrate our continuing interest in having bus service to our community. Here is the information and invitation from Jim Nagle Public Information Officer for the meeting that will be held on Friday, December 6. They would love to see some representation from La Cienega as we are high on the recommendations for added service.

Sustainable Land Development Code
There is a strong rumor that certain County Commissioners are willing to pass the draft code and fix the problems with it as they come up. This would appear to be a backward way of writing a County Code that has such an impact on rural communities throughout Santa Fe County
Water Monitoring Planning
The Water Monitoring Planning will focus on fund raising strategies and ideas on how to fund the start up of the monitoring plan and its annual and sustained costs.
Camino Real National Historic Trail
The Camino Real National Historic Trail is new to the LCVA and we will be interested in what it means to our community. The following meeting notice comes from Lisa Roach of the County's Open Space Division.
A public open house will be held on December 4th at 5:30 pm at the La Cienega Community Center. The meeting is intended as an initial information-sharing session regarding a segment of El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail referred to as the “Buckman Road Segment,” which follows the historic trail alignment through Santa Fe County, potentially connecting with a point to be determined near La Cieneguilla, to El Camino Real Park along the Santa Fe River Greenway, and north to San Ildefonso Pueblo. Technical assistance has been secured through the National Park Service for the development of a conceptual trail plan. Please join us to learn about the project and to provide feedback as to potential trail alignments, issues of importance, etc., and please forward to those who may be interested.
