Breakfast and Photo Contest

Still time to rally your family and friends for your favorite photo, today is the day, your final chance to vote for the “Community Choice” photo! Make it count.

Bob DeYoung, the Photo Contest Manager has quite a show planned for Saturday’s breakfast with all the photo contest photos on video display. Please join us when all the winners will be announced and the prizes given it out. It will be great community fun.

Don’t forget the great food that comes with the show. Keir and crew are looking for volunteers for the setup, kitchen and clean ups crews so please let Keir know if you would like to help out.

The LCVA wants to ensure everyone understands that there is no charge for the breakfast. We do collect money to defray the cost of food which will be little extra this month because we lost some of our breakfast staples when the power was turned off for a couple of days during construction.

Halloween Carnival and Community Harvest Festival

A reminder that the LCVA is recruiting volunteers to organize the Halloween Carnival scheduled for November 1 and the Community Harvest Festival (date to be announced). So far we have Kathleen McCloud, Carol Cooper and Board member Kathryn Becker volunteering for the Halloween Carnival and Mary Dixon and Ele Simons Harwood for the Community Harvest Festival.

Last year’s Halloween carnival included face painting, mask making, storytelling, a costume contest and a cupcake walk. If you would like to assist in any of the activities please let us know. We were also able to raise about $500 that went toward food, prizes and decorations and included $100 in gift cards from Walmart so that is another way to help out. New Mexico Algae has already committed to a $100 donation for the event.

The LCVA is planning to hold the Community Harvest Festival at El Rancho de las Golondrinas on a late Saturday or Sunday afternoon sometime in October when the museum isn’t too busy. A community potluck seems the simplest way to get together but it would be great to have some local music for the gathering. Look for more information on the Community Harvest and let us know if you have a musical connection.

Special Growers’ Market

In conjunction with our friends at Las Golondrinas the LCVA is helping to organize a special growers’ market for Sunday, October 5 at the museum. This is the Sunday of the museum’s well known and well attended Harvest Festival so if you have a garden or farm and want to be part of something special this is your opportunity. We hope to have homegrown honey and local chile roasting as part of the market. Please contact me if you would like to be part of the market.
