LCVA News – January 2, 2015

Please don’t forget the community breakfast, this Saturday 9-11 a.m. at the Community Center. (The heat is back on).

The reminder is late, but if you want to hear some very interesting community news and updates please plan to be at the breakfast. It will include an LCVA review of the past year, accomplishments, some things in process and things on the horizon and a number of ways for residents to become involved in important community efforts and initiatives. Among the volunteer opportunities are the following:

Library – The library will be opening soon and Linda Grill who heads up the Library Committee is recruiting volunteers to help setting up the library, arranging shelves, organizing books etc.. Then there will be the need for volunteers to run the library.

Trails – Sign up to be on the LCVA Trails Committee – Where, what kind, planning and funding The LCVA will be holding a community “trails” meeting in the next few weeks to begin the discussion.

Future Community Center Committee – Location, services/purposes, design, ongoing management. This will include working with our legislators to have a funding request ready for the 2016 Legislative Session then having that funding request included in the State-wide Bond Initiative that will be voted on in the next General Election in November 2016.

At the January 5 LCVA Board meeting, the Board will be considering re-establishing the LCVA Development Advisory Committee in anticipation of the possibility of working with the large land owners in master planning their properties. In you are interested in the future of your community consider becoming a part of this committee.

Also at the breakfast there will be an update of the work of the Santa Fe River Traditional Communities Collaborative. It now includes UNM’s School of Architecture and Planning’s Water Resources Program’s involvement and the development of a cultural landscape for the communities along the Santa Fe River.

And don’t forget Ellen Wittman’s group working to establish a low-cost, no-cost health clinic for our community. It is all exciting.

So please join us Saturday morning. Keir and crew will be preparing breakfast burritos but we always welcome help in setting up and with the cleanup crew.

Thanks and Happy New Year from the LCVA.

As the longest resident of Cieneguilla and I think I speak for the majority of residents in this area, we DO NOT want any trails in our area. Thank you.

I agree with Gloria! We have enjoyed our village for many years without them & I don’t see a need fo that now. There are miles of trails @ other ends of SFE & the people that enjoy trails can use the ones established already. Put the money towards education of our children better!!!
